Join us for a special Day of the Dead activity.
"Winterland at Twirl" is our theme for this year's holiday exhibition so bundle up and come see our courtyard transformed into a magical white winter land, with or without the help of real snow!
For the grand opening party taking place on Friday November 25th between 1pm - 4pm, we'll have musical entertainment, refreshments, giveaways and of course a visit with Santa for a little bit of Twirl magic to take home. Children will be able to explore the courtyard filled with lights, ornaments and decorated Christmas trees, each with a special Winterland theme; visit the magical Ice-House with face-painting by Tatyana, Queen of Winterland, search for mystery animal tracks in the 'snow' and discover new delights in our giant advent calendar. Dress up fancy if you want, we plan to!
November 26th is Small Business Saturday, a day when the nation recognizes the importance of small businesses in our communities and encourages shoppers to do likewise. Show your support for Twirl with some early holiday shopping and we'll show you our appreciation with a lagniappe on the house! No, that's not a fancy baked good. Pronounced lan-yap and a popular term in New Orleans, it actually refers to a small gift given to a customer by a merchant at the time of purchase to show how much they appreciate their business. We're all about showing you how truly grateful we are for your ongoing support, so come and enjoy some lan-yapy love. There are all kinds of fascinating facts and figures out there for why shopping locally benefits the whole community. For us, it comes down to the simple truth that without your business, we wouldn't be here and that would make us very sad! Check out the Small Business Saturday Facebook page for more information.
Thanks to all who joined us for our first Twirl Number One Book Club meeting! The next club meeting will be Friday, December 9th from 4-5pm. Join us for snacks and lively discussion about Sideways Stories from Wayside School, by Louis Sachar.
Wayside School was supposed to be built with 30 classrooms all next to each other in a row. Instead, the classrooms were stacked one on top of the other - 30 stories tall! Here are some hilarious and fun stories about the school, the teachers, and the students. You'll meet Mrs. Gorf, the meanest teacher of all; terrible Todd, who always gets sent home early; and John who can only read upside down - along with all the other kids in the crazy mixed-up school that came out sideways. But you'll never guess the truth about Sammy, the new kid...or what's in store for Wayside School on Halloween! (Scholastic.com)
Call Angela @ 751-1402 to register. Free. Ages 8-12.
