Festivals and Events Taos is magical at any time of the year, but the holidays bring with them an extra-special enchantment. Where else could you experience centuries-old customs like Taos Pueblo's Christmas Eve Procession and Las Posadas, along with newer traditions like the torchlight parades of the region's ski areas and the ever-popular Lighting of Ledoux? Taos Plaza holiday events commence with the annual lighting of the Town’s Christmas tree on Friday December 2nd. The festivities start at 4pm and there will be musical performances and caroling before the grand lighting at 6pm. Every night through New Year’s Eve, there with be tree and farolito lightings by local organizations, compliments of Town of Taos and Judy Esquibel of the Youth & Family Center.
Mark your calendars for some “Fa La La” fun taking place throughout the historic downtown district including extended shopping hours, music, lights, refreshments and Santa appearances! December 3rd: Kit Carson Holiday Block Party, 5 – 7pm. December 10th: Lighting of Ledoux, 5 – 7pm. Merchants, galleries and museums will be opening up their doors and there will be farolitos, music and refreshments. December 17th: Bonfires on Bent Street, 3 – 7pm. Bonfires and fun along Bent Street & John Dunn House Shops. Friday December 23rd: La Noche de Taos, an evening of shopping, music, refreshments and holiday cheer from dusk until 8pm, around the Historic District.

December 01-24. Taos Folk, at the Stables Gallery. Affordable Holiday gifts made by Taos hands. Open daily 10am to 5:30pm. December 3rd, 11am - 3pm. Kris Kringle Holiday Faire at Taos Waldorf School. All are welcome! Purchase tickets in King Winter’s Treasure Trove for all activities, food and tasty treats. Tickets are $1 each. Make bath salts, felted gnomes, old fashioned ornaments, magic wands, and shop for hand-crafted items. Enjoy holiday goodies in the Twinkle Star Café. December 3rd and 4th. Wintersong at the Taos High School Little Theater. 1.30pm. The Taos Youth Ballet, and special guest performances, present a holiday inspired performance with traditional American, African and Hanukkah music and excerpts from the Nutcracker. Tickets are only $1. Proceeds benefit TYB Scholarships

December 09. Taos Feeds Taos Benefit Concert at KTAOS Solar Center. 4th Annual benefit concert hosted by local favorite Taos band Last to Know and KTAOS. Admission is free with the donation of 5 or more cans of food, for Taos Feeds Taos now in its 26th year.
December 10th. 10am – 2pm. Holiday Fiesta at Millicent Rogers Museum. Enjoy retable paintings, flower fairies, Ojos de Dios, face painting and Hanukkah activities.
Also on December 10th. 1pm – 4pm, Christmas Carnival at Taos Youth & Family Center. Kids will enjoy a carnival, skating after the show and gifts direct from Santa.
December 10. Slopestyle Competition at Sipapu Resort. NMX Sports will be hosting a slopestyle contest at Sipapu's terrain park - open to skiers and snowboarders! Great prizes will be awarded.
December 10. Taos Inn Christmas Tree Lighting at Historic Taos Inn. 6pm. This is a well-loved event for locals & visitors alike.
December 15. Angel Fire Ski Area Opens Angel Fire Ski Area opens its 45th season of winter fun. With 560+ acres of ski-able terrain and 73 trails, two terrain parks, extensive cross-country trails and a three-lane tubing hill.
December 15. Ornament Making, at Taos Youth & Family Center. Materials and examples will be provided for you, just bring your imagination. 3-5pm. Children six and seven need to be accompanied by an adult. Free.
December 16 – 24. Las Posadas, meeting at Ranchos Church, Ranchos de Taos at 6pm. Enjoy the Spanish tradition of re-enacting Mary and Joseph's search for lodging. traditionally lasted nine nights. The final night they, along with their followers who carry candles and sing Christmas songs, are given a room amid rejoicing. Meet at Ranchos Church, 6pm. December 16 - 17, 2011 Demo Days at Taos Ski Valley. Ride the Newest Skis and Snowboards on the market at no cost!
December 17. Brewmaster's Festival at Taos Ski Valley. Bring your friends and sample beers from 25 breweries from across the southwest region. Located in Tenderfoot Katie's and the Martini Tree Bar. 4:30-7pm.
December 17 – 18. Chamber Music at The Harwood: A Classical Holiday Encore Premier chamber music performance in the Harwood's Arthur Bell Auditorium - Taos Chamber Music Group presents a holiday program including music by Mozart and Beethoven. Violin, piano, viola, cello, and flute. Sat-7:30pm; Sun-4pm.
December 17. Bonfires on Bent Street, at Bent Street & John Dunn House. Another wonderful holiday block party with shopping, refreshments, music and yuletide fun -- Bonfires on Bent Street -- 3 to 7 p.m. along Bent Street and among the adjacent John Dunn Shops.
December 18. Holiday Market at Angel Fire Community Center. 10am – 4pm. Arts and crafts just in time for holiday shoppers.
December 18, World Snowboard Day at Sipapu Resort. The international snowboard community mobilizes to celebrate the fun of snowboarding.
December 23, La Noche de Taos, Taos Historic District. An evening shopping, music, refreshments and holiday cheer -- dusk until 8 p.m.!
December 24, Torchlight Parade and Fireworks, Angel Fire Resort. Angel Fire Ski Area will light up on Christmas Eve a festive evening of torchlight parade and fireworks before capping off the evening with night skiing at the only ski area in New Mexico to offer skiing under the stars.
December 24. Christmas Eve Procession at Taos Pueblo. Nowhere else on Earth can you experience this magical event. A stunning contrast between bonfires and the Procession of the Virgin is a pageant of beauty, heritage and awe inspiring imagery. Sundown.

December 25. Luminaria Ski/Snowshoe Tour at Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area. Enjoy an evening of cross-country skiing (or snowshoeing) along a luminaria-lined forest trail.
