our home town

Twirl is situated in a rambling 150-year-old Adobe building in the heart of historical Taos. Once inhabited by famous Taosenos Dennis Hopper and Agnes Martin, architectural and artistic treasures are hidden throughout. A fishpond, wishing well, secret staircase with dragons and snakes, and Ali Baba fireplace can all be found, and the building is topped with a mystical pyramid skylight. A magical, mystery tour begins as you enter, with a jungle mural serving as the backdrop for an ever-changing diorama, and continues with four colorful rooms full of toys and games living out of their boxes. Upstairs is a beautiful domed-shape room where music and dance classes take place,
leading onto an outdoor deck for activities and field trips. In the past, the property has been home to a collection of art galleries, a deli, a dentist, and a spiritual retreat amongst other businesses. Few would argue however that it has found its most natural role as the magical setting for Twirl Toy Store and Kidspace. Says founder Amy Wyss, "I've lost track of the number of people who come in and say, ‘Wow. This is the coolest toy store I’ve ever seen. "If it were a seven year old saying this, I’d probably put it down to childish exuberance. When it’s the forty-five year old parent of that child, you know you’re on to something.”
